Richmond Richmond

Imagine being in a place so diverse, so vast you feel an indescribable sense of freedom.  From the plains of the downs country to the silvery shimmer of the sun shining on the gidgee trees in the forest country, Richmond is often referred to as an oasis in the Outback.  Situated on the Overlander’s Way halfway between Townsville and Mt Isa the town is located on the banks of  Queensland’s longest river, the Flinders, and is known for its marine fossils, recreational Lake Fred Tritton and bougainvillea lined streets, parks and gardens.

Since settlement Richmond’s major industry has been primary production.  The grazing of sheep and cattle has provided not only a form of income and direct source of employment it has also allowed businesses that service the industry such as retail and hospitality to develop and the community to grow around it.

Richmond is rich with authentic heritage and modern day experiences.  Visit local attractions and explore the legends, characters, colourful tales and rich landscapes of this fascinating area.
